We believe that your learning English experience in Ireland should happen, not only in class but also outside of the class room and so we organise a free weekly social program for all our students. Have a look at our photo gallery here!.
Our teachers incorporate the social program into the English classes and encourage students to present projects and oral presentations on the weekly programs. Students quickly realise how they can use the English that they have learned in class, outside of class with other students and with Irish people. Our teachers often go along on the activities.
Diane Swift, our Social Coordinator, works with us all year. Diane has been working with foreign students for over 2 decades, arranging social programs and tours for groups of students all over Ireland and Dublin. Diane also hosts foreign students in her home and is a qualified English teacher.
"I like to show students more than the average tourist gets to see, I have been doing visits for years and I know Dublin like the back of my hand!" Diane says. "I do my best to take students to places where other tourists don't get to go and give them information that they wouldn't normally get to hear!". Being a qualified English teacher, Diane does realise that students are here to learn English and so always insists that English is the only language spoken!
Diane does not organise her programs months in advance, as often, she finds some of the best activities to do by chance. However, every Monday at the class break Diane meets the students in our common room to introduce herself to new students and arrange the activities for that week.
Diane also organises full day and weekend tours subject to demand and minimum numbers being interested. These trips are personalised and can be to anywhere in Ireland. Diane will have notices up on the students' social board with more information.
English and Sports; we have tennis courts and a park, right on our door step. Students regularly organise international football matches and tournaments. Also, being in Dun Laoghaire, a large variety of watersports , sailing, yachting, kayaking, canoeing etc. are available in the area. |
