Social Activities Information

These are several of the activities that we run quite regularly as they are very popluar amongst our students.
Kevin Annalivia School, English classes in DublinGuided Tour of Kilmainham JailOne of the most poplular visits for our students! Built in 1792, it is Ireland's most famous disused prison. It held throughout the years many famous Nationalists and Republicans in members of the Society of United Irishmen (1798), Young Irelanders (c1840s), Fenians and Land agitators, Parnell, Davitt. The leaders of the 1916 Ester Rising were executed here. The prison was closed in 1924. This building gives a good insight into the history of Irish Republicanism
Irish Dancing & Music ClassComhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann is a group involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music. Our students have the opportunity to create their own ceili and to try out some Irish dancing under the expert tuition of Comhaltas teachers! Slip jigs, light jigs, sets, treble jigs and more! This is a really fun night out with great music and lots and lots of dancing and craic.

Dublina And ChristchirchChristchurch and DubliniaDublinia & The Viking World is a heritage centre, located in central Dublin, at the heart of the medieval city. The exhibitions at Dublinia explore life in the medieval city and the world of the Vikings and are housed in a beautiful neo- Gothic Victorian building. Students stroll through this recreated medieval city taking in scenes of street and homelife, from long ago. Educational, informative and good fun too

Wishing well pubThe Wishing Well PubOne of our students’ absolute favourites! This cosy and much loved local pub is the setting every Monday night for a wonderful collection of Irish musicians who belt out their traditional reels and jigs. Many students experience the sound of the bodhran, the tin whistle and the squeezebox for the very first time. It’s impossible not to get carried away by the music and usually there’s lots of knee slapping and toe tapping and whooping going on. Wonderful warm atmosphere and excellent musical entertainment

The Purty KitchenThe Purty KitchenWe all have a place we go to where the people always know our name and for us, this is the Purty! Our favourite and preferred pub, hang out, eatery and music venue in Dublin. It’s cosy, the Guinness is great, the staff are always welcoming and helpful and the food really special! Their live music nights range from the old to the traditional, the contemporary to the obscure! A regular with the students.

Trinity College and Book of KellsTrinity College and the Book of KellsThe Book of Kells was written around the year 800 AD and is one of the most beautifully illuminated manuscripts in the world. It contains the four gospels, preceded by prefaces, summaries, and canon tables or concordances of gospel passages. It is written on vellum and contains a Latin text of the Gospels in insular majuscule script accompanied by magnificent and intricate whole pages of decoration with smaller painted decorations appearing throughout the text. The manuscript was given to Trinity College in the 17th century and since 1953 has been bound in four volumes. It has been on display in the Old Library since the 19th century.

English Classes and Social progNo. 29 Georgian houseOn the corner of Mount Street Upper, No 29 Fitzwilliam Street has been completely furnished in the style of a middle-class family house of the period 1790 - 1820 with items from the National Museum Collection.
The guided tours take in the lives of all the members of the household, passing from the kitchen and pantry through drawing rooms and bedrooms to the nursery.
William Dargan, the railway designer, lived at No 2 Fitzwilliam Street, and Fitzwilliam House, No 6, was the home of Margaret Burke Sheridan, the Irish prima donna famous for her renditions of Puccini's work. Fascinating step back into Georgian Dublin and the life and times of its wealthy inhabitants

Botanic GardensBotanic GardensA lovely way to while away a Summer afternoon. The Botanic Gardens are a hive of activity in Spring and Summer. There’s an excellent visitor centre here which combines a lecture hall, restaurant and a display area with exhibits relating to the history and purpose of the gardens. There are enclosed tropical greenhouses, lakes, Japanese gardens, rolling hills and magnificent fountains. A real favourite with our students who get to laze about in the sunshine after a hard days study!
